If you want to make a film in NZ…
NZ may have exactly what you’re looking for!
Several film makers swear by it with some of the
world’s highest grossing movies of all time either shot, edited or completed here in NZ and both
Sir Peter Jackson and James Cameron have bases here on our shores.
NZ’s a small country, small population, of about 4.5 million, we’re always close to the sea, the mountains, the plains and we have 4 seasons to the year here, sometimes all in one day, and we have trains, boats & flying machines, even Gulfstreams like Peter Jackson’s above… see what film making could possibly do for you here! We’ve got them all, including an extraordinary array of professional film makers!
1896… NZ first saw films shown here.
1913… NZ’s first film production shot here, ‘Hinemoa’ later screened in New York the same year.
1914… NY City saw the opening of the 3300 seat Strand Theater. Films were here to stay &
Charlie Chaplin’s first film called Making a Living was released, Paramount Pictures was formed & the world’s first 70mm film format was introduced with the film IL sacco di Roma.
1916… NZ was home to the first shooting of The Mutiny on the Bounty &
then came the many films that followed that made the movie business here so strong!
Now over a Century later…
New Zealand continues to inspire many a great film maker,
and for some… they get to dream up that next great blockbuster on the horizon.
That camera… don’t leave home without it!
