I began creating this page on 03 Aug 2010, from info I found on the USGS website. That day
at 10:53PM/NZ time,
there was a Magnitude 6.3 earthquake recorded in the Molucca Sea.
Just 24 hours later, at 10:53PM/NZ time, 4 Aug 2010, there were 27 earthquakes from M2.5 recorded, 9 of those were between M5.0 to M6.4 worldwide. Just 24 hours later, 5 August 2010, 30 earthquakes from M2.5 were recorded, 9 were between M5.0 to M7.0 this time. It made me wonder.

Last year Chile suffered a major Magnitude 8.8 & across the sea here in New Zealand, we were alerted to an Emergency Tsunami heading our way from there! We were lucky, it was basically low tide at the time and the tsunami brought only a 1.5 meter swell with it. If it were a high tide, it could have wreaked havoc. So I began taking closer notice.

I found the USGS website reported the latest earthquakes from the past 7 days, with magnitudes of M2.5 in the US + earthquakes of M4.5 or greater from around the world. Once in their site, I found to click on the word MAP and up popped a map of where the quake was. After a while I was beginning to see how all the dots joined together! It’s not pretty what I was finding. I even found some earthquakes of M8.5′s, right up to an M9.5 Largest Earthquakes by Magnitude in Wikipedia… a whole lot of shaking going on!

As I wrote above,
I began this page on 3 Aug 2010…
Since 01 Jan 2011, I decided to post all earthquakes of Magnitude 6.0 or higher, to see where it would head and today, 11 March 2011, sadly Japan was slammed with an M9.0, massive tsunamis and nuclear disasters unfolding. The shaking far exceeds what I expected!

I feel it’s best, from here on in, we become more aware & take better care of this planet of ours… it’s not as if we have any spares.

This is where I will let this page end.
